Mobile health clinics start operations in Sierra Leone

The mobile health clinic buses have officially started a seven-day nationwide operation in Sierra Leone enabling people in remote communities to undergo free medical tests and treatments.

On Monday 1st August 2022, the four sophisticated medical buses, which were donated by the Chinese government in March this year, were deployed in the Western Area (rural and urban) and the districts of Bo and Port Loko, to treat people.

ECOWAS condemns Guinean authorities over latest violence against prodemocracy protesters

Leaders of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have in a statement released over the weekend  deplored the violence of last Thursday and Friday in which protesters clashed with the security forces in  the capital Conakry, leading to deaths and injuries.

ECOWAS called for the release of those detained and that prompt investigations are conducted into what led to the clashes and avoid a recurrence and also bringing “the perpetrators to justice, in accordance with the law”.

MRCG adopts National Framework on Journalists Safety

The Media Reform Coordinating Group (MRCG) has adopted a comprehensive national framework for the safety of journalists in Sierra Leone.

In his statement, the Head of Media and Public Relations in the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Brima Kamara noted that the word safety in the document tells you that the SLP has a role to play which falls within the remits of Force. He said the Police have a statutory as well as constitutional responsibility to protect lives and properties.

Sierra Leone domesticates convention on arbitration

Parliament of Sierra Leone has on Tuesday 2nd August 2022 domesticated the International Convention on Arbitration thereby ensuring that foreign trade disputes can be arbitrated locally.

The Deputy Attorney General, Umaru Napoleon Koroma told the lawmakers in the house of parliament that the law provides for the settlement of  international disputes  between states and other nationals of different states.
