Foreign minister updates diplomats on Sierra Leone riots

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Professor David Francis has stated that unknown terrorists attacked Sierra Leone where five (5) police officers were killed on the 10th August 2022.

He made this pronouncement while updating the International community on recent happening in the country on the protest. 

Black Wednesday in Sierra Leone as 27 die in violent protests

The much-talked-about protest that happened on Wednesday in the east of Freetown and parts of the north of Sierra Leone left at least 27 people killed among them six police officers, according to officials.

Mortuary and hospital sources told Politico that the police officers were killed in Freetown, Makeni and Kamakwie.

The Petroleum Regulatory Agency yesterday announced a drop in the pump price of petroleum products across Sierra Leone from NLE 19 to NLE 18.

The country experienced a sharp increase in the pump price of petroleum products from NLE10 to NLE15 and later to NLE18 occasioned by the Ukraine Russia Conflict in March. This sparked reactions from citizens across the country including commercial drivers.

Sierra Leone schools lack sanitation – Audit report

Audit Service Sierra Leone in its Performance Audit report on the implementation of the School Feeding Programme reported that water and sanitary facilities remain a challenge in schools.

The report says this is a result of the absence of infrastructural development.

NaCCED urges citizens to register for election

The National Council for Civic Education and Development (NACCED) in a seminar held at Youyi building urged citizens to come out in their numbers and register come September.

According to the Chairman of NACCED, Kalilu Totangi, the seminar was meant to develop messages in partnership with the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) and other election management bodies. He said, they want to provide support for ECSL towards the electioneering process, as they are now preparing for the voter registration exercise.

Sierra Leone widows to forfeit provincial land after they remarry

A widow remarrying outside her late husband’s family is set to lose possession of land in the provinces belonging to the deceased, following the enactment of the Customary Land Rights Act 2022 by the Parliament of Sierra Leone on Monday.

The law however gives authority to the children of the widow to take full ownership of their father’s land.
