One-shift schooling for Sierra Leone schools starts September 2022

The Minister of Basic and Senior School Education (MBSSE ) has announced that a cross-section of government Secondary Schools in Sierra Leone will  return to a single shift this coming academic year which commences next month.

Amongst the schools mentioned to make the shift from two shifts to a single shift were the Annie Walsh Memorial School, Methodist Girls High School, St. Joseph Convent, Saint Francis Secondary School in Makeni, and Ansarul Islamic School among others.

Sierra Leone to relocate street traders

Relocation of the Sani Abacha Street Market Women is set be announced by government before the weekend, according to the Executive Secretary of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion(ICPNC), Hawa Sally Samai, without naming the specific location.

She said this while responding to questions at the government’s weekly press briefing, organised by Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) in Freetown yesterday Thursday, 25th August, 2022.

Schools increase by 13% in Sierra Leone - says School Census report

The 2021 Annual School Census (ASC) has indicated that schools in Sierra Leone have increased by 13 percent from ten thousand, seven hundred and forty-seven (10,747) schools in 2018 to twelve thousand, one hundred and sixty-eight (12,168) schools in 20221.

This result was disclosed by the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), Dr. Moinina David Sengeh during the ASC Report launch on Wednesday 24th August 2022 at the Ministry’s Conference Hall, New England Ville Freetown.

Information Minister urges Sierra Leone filmmakers to go digital

The Minister of Information and Communications, Mohamed Rahman Swarray has urged filmmakers to go digital as he said it will reduce piracy and attract funds from other big screen television outlets.

He made this call at the National film policy consultative meeting held at the Sierra Leone Standards Bureau Conference hall at Bai Bureh Road on the 24th of August 2022.

Road crash leaves three seriously injured

A heavy duty truck crashed into the fence of the China Friendship House at Brookfields on Thursday 25th August causing significant damage to motorbike taxis and rickshaw-like motorized transport, locally known as kekehs parked in the area. Eye witnesses told Politico that apparently the brakes of the truck, carrying hundreds of bags of cement, failed as the vehicle made its way down King Herman road.

Town chief fails to meet bail condition

The Town Chief of Henai Village in Malen Chiefdom, Chief Emurana Koroma,and four others are still on remand at the Pujehun Correctional Centre in Southern Sierra Leone after failing to meet the bail conditions set by Magistrate Joseph Toby.

The magistrate had granted bail to the chief and four other accused persons, with each to produce two sureties, one of whom should have at least fifty thousand new Leones (fifty million old Leones) in their bank account.
