Apex Bank Manager in police custody

The Sierra Leone Police is investigating the Operations Manager of the Apex Bank branch in Kenema, Foday Michael S. A. Sesay, after being arrested for allegedly embezzling over one million new Leones (Le 1 billion of old) from the bank.

IMC investigates MP, Citizen FM saga

The Independent Media Commission (IMC) has launched an investigation into an incident involving Coalition 4 Change (C4C) party leader in Parliament, Emerson Lamina, and the Radio Station Manager of Citizen FM 107.5, Ibrahim Tamba Fanday in Kono.

The commission says it has been briefed by its Monitoring Research and Project Unit and has opened a formal investigation on the matter, quoting its 2020 Act with the mandate to protect the interest of the public against exploitation or abuse by media institutions.

Sierra Leone's old currency expires in 2023

The Bank of Sierra Leone has extended the expiry date for the old Leone currency that is still in circulation following the introduction of the new redenominated Leone in July. The central bank in a press release dated 15th September 2022 announced the 31st March 2023 as the extended new date that the old Leone will become illegal tender, as against the 1st October 2002 earlier deadline set by the bank.

Wife gets 5 years imprisonment for killing husband

High Court Judge, Aiah Simeon Allieu has sentenced Christiana Monikor to five years imprisonment after she was found guilty of murdering her husband, Moses Koroma at Waterloo, outside of Freetown. 

The sentence includes time spent at the Correctional Centre while the trial was going on, according to Justice Allieu, after listening to the plea of litigation on Thursday 15th September.

Farmer’s Cooperative to boost Agricultural productivity

Farmers in Kenema have launched a farmers’ cooperative called Yakineh that is geared towards bringing farmers together for better agricultural productivity.

The launching which took place on the 15th of September 2022 at the City Council hall, in Kenema captured farmers’ groups from Dodo, Simbaru, Kandu- Leppiama, Lower Bambara, Wandor, and Gorama Mende Chiefdoms. The theme for the launch was: ‘’supporting bulk marketing sales’’.

Disabled students empowered for new academic year

In a bid to empower 170 Children and Youngsters with Disabilities (CYwDs), The Dorothy Springer Trust (DST) in collaboration with One Family People (OFP) and support from Lillian Foundation has supported students with school learning materials, medication and other services to assist them in the 2022-2023 academic year.

The distribution happened on Friday 16th September at the head office of DST at the Freetown Cheshire Home in Freetown.

Sierra Leone develops pregnancy-tracking app

Sierra Leone’s The Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI), headed by the Chief Innovation Officer (CIO) Dr. David Moinina Sengeh has developed a Pregnancy Registration and Service Tracking (PresTrack) app.

The app will be used to register, track and monitor complications in pregnancy and neonates, among other things.
