Sierra Leone Prisons department generates income from products and services

The Deputy Director-General of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS), Colonel Sahr David Ngaujah has told the Ministry of Finance (MoF) organized budget hearing that their institution generated  38,500,000 (thirty- eight million, five hundred thousand Old Leones) from products and services offered.

He said they include products and agricultural crops sold at their Showroom, Canteen, and hiring of the Brass Band.

Plans to address problems of police wives

The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Wives Association is set to map out a strategic development plan that will ensure they identify challenges and opportunities bordered on the association and find ways of addressing them.

The proposed initiative according to the Police Media team was organised by the President of the SLP wives association Maltida Doris Sellu, who is also the wife of the current Police Inspector General.

Parliament seeks to promote openness through ICT

The Key Expert to Parliament for the EU Technical Assistance Programme, Adams Fusheini on the 28th of September at a training held for parliamentary staff said that the training will enable staff to use digital platforms to relay information in a bid to promote openness.  

Fusheini explained that the staff will use technology to provide online information to the citizens, thereby bringing parliament to the people; he noted that this will make the institution accountable.  

Water regulatory body goes years without gov’t revenue

The Director of Finance and Administration at the Sierra Leone Electricity Water Regulatory Commission (SLEWRC) has said that the commission did not receive the allocated sum of money from the government of Sierra Leone for the running of the institution for the fiscal years 2021 and 2022.

Another coup in Burkina Faso

Another coup has been reported in Burkina Faso, barely eight months after soldiers led by Lt. Colonel Paul-Henri Damiba toppled the civilian government of President Roch Marc Kabore’.

Soldiers in a televised address announced that a new military ruler Captain Ibrahim Traore was now in charge of the country. The latest coupist accused Damiba of prioritising politics at the expense of the security of Burkina Faso.

Sierra Leone makes ID number mandatory for WASSCE entries

The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), has set the National Identification Number (NIN) as a prerequisite for Candidates of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The decision is part of measures to curb examination malpractices in the country.
