Sierra Leone foreign minister confident of Security Council attainment

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Professor David Francis, says the country’s chances in attaining a non-permanent seat in the United Nation’s Security Council for 2024 to 2025, are quite high.

The minister told a press conference in Freetown on Friday 21st October, 2022, the country has already built a niche for itself in the global stage immensely which it can bank on.

Sierra Leone decentralizes drivers’ licenses printing

Petty trader remanded over voter ID forgery

Justice Adrian Fisher of High Court No. 1 in Freetown has remanded Mariama Bangura, a petty trader, for allegedly forging a voter registration identification card.

Mariama, 27, who cannot read or write, was before the court charged with Forgery of Voter Registration Card and Unlawful Possession of Voter’s Card.

Love Aid boosts community education

A community based Non- Governmental Organization (NGO), Love Aid has boosted education in Kissy in the East end of Freetown.

This was disclosed at its formal launch on Friday 21st October, 2022 by Board Chairman of the NGO, William Conteh.

He added that most of the schools in Kissy lack furniture, noting that a combination of those challenges prompted them to   establish the NGO to give back to their community.

Sexual harassment allegations against Sierra Leone Rokel Bank MD

A former Secretary and Legal Adviser of the Rokel Commercial Bank, Margaret Davies, says she plans to take legal action against the Managing Director of the bank, Ekundayo Gilpin, on allegations of sexual harassment and wrongful dismissal.

She disclosed this to journalists and other local and international human rights organisations at a press conference organised by a law firm, Marrah and Associates, at the Africell American Corner in Freetown on Wednesday 19th October, 2022.

Sierra Leone to use Proportional Representation electoral system in 2023

Next year’s General Elections will be based on the Proportional Representation electoral system instead of the First Past the Post system.

The Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mohamed Konneh, who is acting under the directive of President Julius Maada Bio has confirmed to Politico that the electorate will elect their MPs under the District Block system in the June 2023 polls.

Skye Bank Manager detained over death of female staff

The Manager of Skye Bank in Sierra Leone, Ikubolaje Nicol  is being detained at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Freetown following the death of Sinnah Kargbo who was also a staff at Skye.

The circumstances surrounding the young woman’s death are still unclear as detectives continue with their investigations in the wake of varied unconfirmed accounts over the location and manner of her death.
