Love Aid boosts community education

By Chernor AlimamyKamara

A community based Non- Governmental Organization (NGO), Love Aid has boosted education in Kissy in the East end of Freetown.

This was disclosed at its formal launch on Friday 21st October, 2022 by Board Chairman of the NGO, William Conteh.

He added that most of the schools in Kissy lack furniture, noting that a combination of those challenges prompted them to   establish the NGO to give back to their community.

He went on to say that, they have been assisting community schools with furniture and learning materials, and they want to continue with that trend.

He noted that the NGO stems from the Agape Outreach Ministry Church that cuts across and that Kissy community has been challenged with poor sanitation and inadequate health facilities. He also said that teenage pregnancy and mental challenges due to high drug intake among youths have been on the increase.

Through the Ministry’s core values of accountability, the NGO, he said also wants to emulate those principles of supporting the vulnerable.

He said Love Aid rendered free malaria treatment to over 50 people in the community.

He further said that, they have also organized free eye clinic for school going children, treating many including those with colour blindness.

A member of the board, Clifford Metzger asserted that, they want to ensure that the community always has access to health facilities. He also said that, they want the community to own the NGO’s programmes so that they can be sustainable.

Head teacher of United Primary School, Kissy, Jessey Davies reiterated that, Kissy is one of the most deprived communities in the Western Urban that lacks basic social amenities in their schools. He said, with the help of Love Aid together and Agape Ministry, they were able to receive assorted school materials and urged the NGO to continue helping them with more support.

County Director of the Centre of Dialogue on Human Settlement and Poverty Alleviation (CODOHSAPA), Francis Reffell explained that, many NGOs have existed in Sierra Leone after the civil war, but he said most of them are not working towards their mandate. He advised them not to have doubts if donors keep knocking on their doors for accountability; which he said is due to past experiences.

He urged them to create a niche for them to be known all over. He also advised them to be professional and proactive in running their activities.

The Love Aid Non-Governmental Organization aims at changing lives through inclusive and non-discriminatory provision and access to education and health services for sustainable development.
