New NCRA centre for pupils

The National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) has established a National Identification Number (NIN) registration centre at Kingtom Police Mess for pupils and students residing in the Western Area. The Ministry of Basic Education recently made NIN a requirement for pupils wanting to take public exams.  

SLRTC to construct rest places on provincial routes

The Sierra Leone Road Transport Corporation (SLRTC) says it will construct rest places for passengers travelling along the provincial routes.

SLRTC General Manager, Isaac Ken-Green told a news conference at the Ministry of Information that SLRTC is to build the rest places at Masiaka, Moyamba Junction and Bo for passengers travelling over long distances.

Contractor has no competency – Dr. Alie Kabba testifies

Sierra Leone’s former Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Alie Kabba has revealed that the fifth accused, Jules Sanders Davies, who was the contractor for the reconstruction and renovation of the Sierra Leone Chancery Building in Manhattan, New York, United States of America, between 2011 and 2019, had no competency for the project.

Over $ 4,000,000 (four million Dollars) was allegedly transferred for that purpose between these years, according to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The first lady made this call during her keynote address at the West African Post Graduate College of Nursing and Midwifery, Sierra Leone Chapter’s Annual General Meeting held in Kenema, on Friday 14th October 2022.

MRCG trains journalists on transitional justice

The Media Reform Coordinating Group Sierra Leone (MRCG-SL) has with its partner organization African Transitional Justice Legacy Fund (ATJLF),  held a regional training of journalists on transitional justice that will  enable them to report on  issues that will help prevent a repeat of events such as the August 10 violence ahead of  the upcoming 2023 elections.

Girls top Sierra Leone’s middle school exams

Bintu Louis Wright, a student of Providence International Senior High School emerged as the top candidate in the just-released Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results with an excellent score of A1 in all eight subjects, scoring an aggregate of 6 (perfect) and an average grade of 1.00, according to the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Dr David Moinina Sengeh.

Sierra Leone: 7 sentenced over 10 August protests, 2 discharged

Magistrate Isata Sellu-Tucker of Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown has sentenced seven accused persons to 16 months in prison and fined each NLe 5,000 (five thousand New Leones) after being found guilty acquitted of public order offences ranging from Unlawful Procession to Riotous Conduct in the August 10 anti-government protests in some parts of Sierra Leone.

The sentences are to run concurrently. Two other people were discharged.
