Jurors trained on effective service delivery

The Judiciary of Sierra Leone through the Judicial and Legal Training Institute (JLTI) with support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) on Monday October 24 held a training and orientation for jurors from Bo, Moyamba, Kenema, Mattru Jong and Kailahun to ensure effective service delivery in the administration of justice.

Law School results out for 2022

The Council of Legal Education- Sierra Leone Law School that certifies Call to the country’s Bar has published its final year students’ examination result for 2022, with 101 passes.

According to a list published by the school on Tuesday 25th October, 2022, a total of 269 students attempted the exams in which 48 failed, 107 got references and 13 had their results withheld.

The Law School is the only educational institution that is charged with the responsibility of certifying students to practice law as a profession. 

Judge rejects bail application for Sierra Leone rap star, LAJ

In determining whether or not to grant bail, High Court Judge, Adrian Fisher, presiding over the trial of Musician Alhaji Amadu Bah, better known as LAJ, has evaluated the medical report by the defense and the affidavit by the prosecution, concluding that there is a significant risk that giving the rapper bail will lead to further attempts to interfere with witnesses and equally that the accused will not return to continue trial.

LAJ’s legal team had earlier made a bail application on his behalf.

Megabyte floor price increment put on hold

Following public outrage at the exponential increase in the floor price of megabyte as experienced by internet users beginning past Friday, the country’s National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM) has on Saturday evening issued a statement, putting on hold the increment.

The very brief NATCOM statement said: ‘Further stakeholder consultations and realignment are underway to ensure that consumer satisfaction is enhanced’.

Six districts discuss peace consolidation

Stakeholders in the districts of Falaba, Koinadugu, Karene, Bombali, Kono and Tonkolili have discussed how best to foster peace in their various communities, during town hall meetings facilitated by the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion(ICPNC).

Also the engagement was to also formally introduce the commission to the people, and talk about the 20th anniversary of the attainment of peace in the country.
