Post-Ebola training for any disease outbreak

The Post-Ebola Recovery Social Investment Fund (PERSIF) has ended a training of trainers’ workshop in the Integrated Disease Surveillance Response (IDSR) for health workers in the Eastern Technical University (ETU) and the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS) to tackle subsequent outbreak of diseases.

Magistrate Isata Susan Sellu-Tucker of the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 2 in Freetown has sentenced Mabinty Kamara and Abu Bakarr Mohamed Dumbuya to 21 months imprisonment and fined them each the sum of NLe 3,000 (three thousand Leones) after they were found guilty of committing public order offences in Lungi during the violent anti-government protests in Sierra Leone on 10th August 2022.

SLeSCA produces 891 tons of seed rice

Sierra Leone Seed Certification Agency (SLeSCA) in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security (MAFFS) has produced 891 (eight hundred and ninety one) tons of seed rice in 2022, compared to the 150 (one hundred and fifty) tons imported from foreign countries in 2021.

This was disclosed at the Ministry of Information and Communications weekly press briefing on the 27th October, 2022 at Youyi Building in Freetown.

US Govt’s MCC scores Sierra Leone 92% in primary education

Sierra Leone is said to have scored 92% in primary education expenditures for the 2022 Fiscal Year (FY) as compared to 27% the sector expended in FY 2017.

The percentage score was disclosed by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) which shows that Sierra Leone has passed 13 out of the 20 indicators upon which governments are independently assessed to determine their eligibility for multi-million dollar grants from the United States Government.

Calls for policies against sexual harassment in Sierra Leone institutions

Legal Access through Women Yearning for Equality Rights and Social Justice (LAWYERS) has called on institutions to lay down policies to protect women from sexual harassment.

A press release issued on the 25th October 2022, by the advocacy institution which comprises mainly women legal practitioners stated that both the public and private workplaces and educational institutions should initiate policies that protect women complainants from being victimized by their abusers and the media.
