$ 5 million to digitally connect 523 schools in Sierra Leone

The Parliament of Sierra Leone has approved a loan agreement between the Government and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) for digital connectivity of 523 schools as part of accelerating Covid 19 recovery project across the country. 

The First Deputy Minister of Finance, Sheku F. Bangura, told lawmakers on Thursday 27th October, 2022, that the loan agreement is aimed at resorting and restarting edification systems and connecting communities to critical information and opportunities in the digital economy.

Another NaCSA safety nets payments

The National Commission for Social Action (NACSA) is set to commence   another set of payments to beneficiaries of the COVID-19 Social Safety Nets (SSN) programme better known as “Ep Fet Po”.

This was disclosed in a statement put out by the commission on the 27th October, 2022.

The first phase of the next payment is said to commence on Saturday 29th October, 2022 targeting Bombali, Bonthe, Falaba, Kambia, Karene, Kono, Moyamba and Port Loko.

Over 200 girls get vocational training in Kenema

Over two hundred adolescent girls in Giehun Luawa and Burma in Kenema district have acquired various vocational skills training ranging from tailoring, hairdressing, crafting to embroidery, courtesy of a non-governmental organization called Future Focus Foundation Sierra Leone with support from Tools for Self Reliance based in the United Kingdom.

Affected property owners in Kono to appeal High Court ruling

Lawyers for the Marginalised Affected Property Owners (MAPO) of Kono, Eastern Sierra Leone are set to appeal the decision of High Court Judge Unisa Kamara J. in a class action law suit against a Diamond Mining Company named Koidu Limited.

The High Court of Sierra Leone which sat in Makeni Northern Leone on Thursday 27th October 2022 delivered the long-awaited ruling on the matter between the affected property owners in the diamond mining district of Kono, and the company. 

Displaced disabled Kenema fire victims appeal for help

Disabled persons whose houses were destroyed in fire incident in Kenema on 28th August this year have asked humanitarians organizations and philanthropists in the country to come to their aid, as they go through numerous difficulties.

A fire had gutted the building they were occupying close to the Kenema Correctional Centre.

ECOWAS Parliamentary Oversight Mission Visits NEWMC-SL

On Thursday 27th October 2022, the National Early Warning and Response Mechanism Coordinating Centre Sierra Leone NEWMC-SL received a visiting delegation from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliamentary Oversight Mission during which they discussed the work the centre has been doing since its establishment in 2021.

The Head of the ECOWAS delegation, the Fourth Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Adja Satu Camara Pito, said she was pleased to see women holding higher positions in the office.
