9 contestants for Miss Freetown 2022

Nine (9) beauty pageant applicants that met the criteria, from the over 20 (twenty) young women that applied are to take part in the 2022 Miss Freetown Beauty Contest, after successfully going through the auditioning and unveiling at the Freetown City Hall last Saturday. The theme for this year’s competition is titled: “Girl Power and Community Engagement”.

The contest will be organized by Lake Production Sierra Leone in collaboration with Eminence Africa Holdings Limited.

China donates agriculture machinery to Sierra Leone

The Chinese Government has donated a huge consignment of agricultural machinery to the Government of Sierra Leone to support  farming initiatives in the country.

400 Mobile Rice Threshers, 400 Winnowers, 60 Rice Whiteners,  400  Cutters, 500 Rice Trans planters, 100 Chain Saws are among the equipment donated. 

The advanced machinery also came along with technical experts to train Sierra Leonean on their use, according to State House Communications Unit.

2 remanded for allegedly stealing necklace

Magistrate Isata Susan Sellu-Tucker of Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown has remanded Saidu Deen alias ‘Prezo’ and Foday Bangura alias ‘Block Street’ for allegedly stealing a gold/diamond necklace valued $ 3,500 [three thousand five hundred Dollars”, property of Samba Kamara.

The two accused - Deen, 28, and Bangura, 27 - were charged with Conspiracy.

Sierra Leone improves in global rule of law rankings

Sierra Leone has made progression in both global and regional rankings on the Rule of Law, according to the World Justice Project’s report for this year.

Sierra Leone’s overall rule of law score rose by 1.2% this 2022 to be ranked 105th globally, out of 140 countries, making three positions improvement since 2021. The country is also ranked 16th out of 34 countries targeted by WPJ in the continent, and among the minority nations to see its Rule of Law Index score increase this year.

Sierra Leone to fund renovation of primary schools nationwide

The Government of Sierra Leone is set to ensure renovation of some 538 (five hundred and thirty eight) Primary Schools nationwide by providing Le 29.7 billion (twenty nine billion old Leones) grant for the exercise.

Government and government-assisted primary schools in all sixteen districts in the country are receiving the grant.

Paul Saquee wins Paramount Chief parliamentary election

Paramount Chief (PC) Sahr Paul Ngaba Saquee has won the Paramount Chief Member of Parliament election for Kono District.

He contested with Paramount Chief Tamba ET Foyoh and PC Alhaji SCN Konobundoh. The total number of mainly chiefs registered to vote was 14v for the chiefdoms in the district.

The winner PC Saquee polled 10 votes while PC Foyoh and PC Konobundoh got 2 votes each.

Minister backs Varsity entrance exam in Sierra Leone

The Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), Dr. David Moinina Sengeh has thrown his support behind the decision by the Institute of Public Administration and Management IPAM University of Sierra Leone to conduct entrance examination for students after getting their requirements. He said the decision taken by the institution this year is a reflection of the successes of the Free Quality School Education (FQSE).
