Sierra Leone's expanded airport 75% complete

The Minister of Transport and Aviation Kabineh Kallon says the new Freetown International Airport being constructed by the private Turkish firm Summa Group is 75 percent completed. This was disclosed at the weekly Government Press briefing on Thursday 26th January.

As per agreement, the Turkish company is to run the Airport for 25 years after which the government and the people of Sierra Leone will take over the property.

PR system: Sierra Leone Court decides today!

The Supreme Court of Sierra Leone is expected to give ruling today Friday on whether the next General Elections slated for June should be conducted  using the Proportional Representation system.

The matter was taken to court by main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Parliamentarian, Abdul Kargbo and Councilor Hakiratu Maxwell-Caulker as plaintiffs.

Chief Justice Babatunde Edwards and the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) are the defendants in the case.

MP wants explanation for increased mobile phone tariff

Parliamentarian Sahr Charles of constituency 028 has asked that stakeholders responsible for telecommunications in the country explain the reason behind the increment in data tariff.

Charles on the 26th January 2023 called on the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) and the  National Telecommunications Authority (NaTCA) to provide the rationale behind the increment.  

 $1.6 million for 15 local councils

Ministry of Finance‘s Accountable Governance for Basic Service Delivery Project (AGBSDP) has disbursed $1,646,875 (one million, six hundred and forty-six thousand, eight hundred and seventy-five US dollars) to fifteen local district councils for the implementation of projects.

The AGBSDP completed the disbursement to the various councils this month for the implementation of twenty-nine (29) sub-projects across the country.

FBC to enforce dress code

Authorities at the institution this week sent out a notice reminding students about the new measures  which they say is a way of encouraging students as prospective employees of the corporate world.

NRA uncovers Timber depot in PortLoko district

Over 30 buildings destroyed by windstorm in Zimmi

A windstorm which swept through the town of Zimmi in the Pujehun district around 2am on Thursday 26th January has caused widespread damage to buildings including schools.

A  Ward Councillor Abdul Karim Fofana explained to Politico that  torrential rains accompanied by heavy winds  destroyed several learning structures  including the only senior secondary school that serves other towns and villages.

Roofs on houses were blown away and trees uprooted.
