Fourah Bay College (FBC), a constituent institution of the University of Sierra Leone (USL) is to enforce strict dress code. Authorities at the institution this week sent out a notice reminding students about the new measures  which they say is a way of encouraging students as prospective employees of the corporate world.

The Public Relations Officer of USL, James Tamba Lebbie told Politico that the guidelines as contained in the notice will be enforced by the Disciplinary Committee and lecturers. Students who fail to comply will be asked out of class.

Lebbie said the dress code which already is being implemented by FBC and the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), is for all constituent colleges of the university. He said College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences on the other hand has uniform for its students.

In the notice released, FBC prohibits the following manner of dressing; transparent or see-through clothes, short shirts around the navel, very short skirts (mini), tight jeans and trousers, exposure of the body between the waistline and breast, pulling down the trousers almost to the hips to expose the pants and create a puff around the ankle.

Students are advised to dress as responsible people who are being trained to be professionals in their various fields. Men are advised to wear t-shirts, jeans, and African attire with sneakers, sandals or shoes, while the ladies should put on normal western style dresses, blouse/ t-shirt with skirt, jeans and African costume.

The notice concluded with a warning that, those found culpable will be sent out of campus and refusing to comply to the order will lead to culprits being referred to the college’s Disciplinary Committee for a formal investigation.
