Just a week after the first fire outbreak at Wilberforce Barracks in Freetown left an apartment damaged, another fire incident has occurred at the same barracks leaving a whole block of apartments destroyed, and at least 36 families without shelter.

The latest fire outbreak occurred on Friday 20^th January 2023 close to the main electrical transformer that supplies power to the military barracks. Up to Saturday night the whole area was plunged in darkness.

Sierra Leone on Wednesday commemorated the end of the bloody 10-year war waged by the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) and their allies.

The carnage officially ended on 18 January 2002 after tens of thousands of people had either been killed or maimed and millions displaced.

Ceremonies marking the event were held at the civil war memorial at Robis, in the Kaffu Bullom chiefdom in Port Loko District – the scene of where 21 years ago President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah declared, “D WAR DON DON”.

Women across the country have hailed President Julius Maada Bio following his symbolic assent to the Gender Equality and Women Empowerment (GEWE) Act, an event in Freetown that was witnessed by the Vice President,the first lady,women activists and western diplomats.

There has been serious public outcry in the wake of increase in floor price of data tariff by Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) .

Mohamed S. Koroma a young graduate from the University of Sierra Leone explained to Politico how the increase was not timely in view of the economic situation in the country.

He stated that more frustrating was the lack of prior notice by the MNOs unlike in in other countries where the people are given notice whenever they want to effect changes in pricing.
