Ministry of Finance‘s Accountable Governance for Basic Service Delivery Project (AGBSDP) has disbursed $1,646,875 (one million, six hundred and forty-six thousand, eight hundred and seventy-five US dollars) to fifteen local district councils for the implementation of projects.
The AGBSDP completed the disbursement to the various councils this month for the implementation of twenty-nine (29) sub-projects across the country.
According to the press release issued out by the Ministry of Finance (MoF) dated 23rd January 2023; the ministry said that the monies had been disbursed directly into the various special Local Development Grant accounts of the beneficiaries.
“Funds transferred constitute 10% of category 2 funds of the AGBSDP and are meant to support Local District Councils for the implementation of small-scale capital investment and poverty reduction projects; particularly in relation to infrastructural improvements in accordance with their development plans” a part of the release reads.
The release explained that the ministry will be charged with the responsibility of performing oversight function in order to ensure that recipients of the sub-grant implement projects in accordance with the agreed deliverables, obey the terms of the LDG sub-grant agreements, ensure that the funds are spent in line with the MoF and World Bank’s financial laws and regulations amongst others.
The Local District Councils will be in charge of executing the sub-projects financed under the Local Development Grant Scheme.
Councils that funds were allocated are Bo, Falaba, Bombali, Bonthe, Kambia, Kailahun, Kenema, Kono, Koinadugu, Moyamba, Port Loko, Pujehun, Karene, Western Area Rural District and Tonkolili.
The project is divided into two categories named sub-project A and sub-project B. Some of the projects to be undertaken are rehabilitation of markets, rehabilitation, reconstruction and extension of schools, rehabilitation of district halls amongst others.
Tonkolili District council was the sum of NLE 2,471,997.75 for the rehabilitation of CHC Moyorpoh, reconstruction of TDC Primary Makali, etc. The district received the highest sum.
Bonthe District Council was allocated the sum of NLE1,864,278.24, the lowest amongst the fifteen districts. The council is to undertake projects such as the rehabilitation of UBC primary School, Matru Jong, and construction of additional classrooms and office -Kankalay Islamic Primary School, Mokaba.
