Paolo Conteh Appeals His Conviction and Sentence

Lawyers representing convicted former defence minister Alfred Palo Conteh who is serving a two sentence for two count offenses against the Small Arms Commission have appealed his conviction and sentence of three judges in Freetown.

Lead lawyer Dr. Abdulai O. Conteh told the judges that the prison term given to his client is ‘‘unreasoned, harsh and draconian.’’

Presidential award for US Ambassador in Sierra Leone

The outgoing United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Maria E. Brewer, has been awarded with one of Sierra Leone’s highest national honors.

Even though it is doing great in breastfeeding generally, Sierra Leone must focus its energy on improving on Exclusive Breastfeeding, officials and campaigners have said.

The call was made ahead of the commencement of commemoration of World Breastfeeding Week (WBFW).

Experts from both government, its international development partners and civil society organizations urged the government to increase its investment in providing conducive environment for suckling mothers to breastfeed their babies.

IMC to revamp Advertising Committee

The Independent Media Commission (IMC) of Sierra Leone, in a bid to streamline the advertisement sector in the country, has announced plans to revamp its Advertising Advisory Committee (AAC).

The Committee is mandated to adjudicate complaints and advice the commission with regards the rules outlined in the IMC Code of Practice. It also is responsible to handle registration and monitoring of institutions involved in the advertisement industry.
