President Bio takes charge of Sierra Leone People's Party

President Julius Maada Bio has taken charge of the governing Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) as its Leader following the conclusion of a constitutional amendment process.

The new amendment will also see the Vice President of the country, Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, take over as the Deputy Leader of the party.

Health workers demand remote allowances

Polytech lecturers vow to stay on strike

Lecturers of Eastern Polytechnic in Kenema have vowed to continue with their ongoing strike action until government addresses their demand for a review of their pay structure. The lecturers have been on strike since the 27th of July this year.

President of the Senior Staff Association of the institution, Joe Diawo, told Politico that their salaries were supposed to be reviewed every three years, but that the last review was done in 2016.

CTC distributes scales to business people

One of Sierra Leone’s leading rice importers, the Commodity Trading Company (CTC), has on Wednesday 19th August, distributed measuring scales to retail dealers in Freetown. The beneficiaries are those who deal in rice in bags.

The distribution of the measuring tools was facilitated by the Sierra Leone Standards Bureau (SLSB), which said the goal is to ensure fairness in trade by giving consumers the opportunity to weigh the rice in the shops before buying them.

SLP to receive Le17M for Tree Planting

As a way of motivating the security sector to embark on agriculture and in an effort to beautify the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) regional headquarters in the East, the police there have gotten a pledge to the sum of Le17 million from the  Sierra Leone Produce Monitoring Board (SLPMB). The pledge was made jointly with the cocoa, cashew and coffee exporters in the region.

More witnesses testify in Makeni riot case

More witnesses have testified before Magistrate Mark Ngegba in Freetown in the ongoing preliminary investigations into recent violent disturbances in the northern regional headquarter town of Makeni which claimed the lives of at least five people.

In his testimony, the head of police operations in the north-east, Assistant Superintendent George Momoh recognized some of the accused persons and remembered receiving a call from AIG Frank Alpha, inviting him and other personnel to a meeting at his residence in Makeni.

Ports Management Engages Mining Companies
