Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, has officially received the first consignment of some 20,000 pre-paid meters meant for the Bo-Kenema electricity project from the Shenzhen Clou Company responsible for the provision of meters for the project.
The Minister and his team according to reports from the Ministry’s Communication Unit, were received and welcomed by the Resident Minister South, Mohamed Alie, who said he was pleased to receive the delegation in Bo.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Sesay described the day as “historic and unforgettable”, adding that President Julius Maada Bio had during the launch of the Bo-Kenema Network Rehabilitation and Expansion Project at the Coronation Field in Bo announced that it consisted of different components that had been allocated to different contractors.
Alhaji Kanja Sesay noted that the project was dedicated to changing all the poles, cables and meters in Bo and Kenema, stressing that he had on two occasions delivered poles to the two cities in fulfillment of one of the components of the project.
He said he was in Bo to receive the first consignment of some 20,000 pre-paid meters out of the total number of 50,000.
According to the Minister, out of this number of pre-paid meters, Bo and Kenema will get 20,000 each, while the remaining 10,000 will be used for towns along the Bo-Kenema Highway.
Speaking on behalf of the Shenzhen Clou Company, Bea Fu said the company was delighted to be part of the history-making process, adding that the meters that had arrived were of superior quality.
The Acting Director General of EDSA, Ing James Rogers said the ceremony was a spring in the steps of the New Direction’s quest to provide a permanent solution to the electricity situation in Bo and Kenema.
