20-year-old sentenced to death

20-year-old Alie Moddy Turay has on Friday 16th March 2021 been sentenced to death by hanging in Magbruka, northern Sierra Leone.

Justice Unisa Kamara, the Resident High Court Judge of Bombali District currently presiding over the High Court Criminal Session in the township of Magburuka in Tonkolili District, according to a report from the Judifiary Communication sentenced Turay following a unanimous guilty verdict returned by the jury for a one count indictment of murder against him.

Statistics Sierra Leone postpones mid-term census

Statistics Sierra Leone, the body responsible for the collection of national data has announced the postponement of the proposed first ever 2020 national mid-term population and hosing census which was scheduled for April 19 this year.

This is the second time that the census has been postponed to a later date since President Julius Maada Bio proclaimed it in July 2020.

Water Crisis hits Sierra Leone's newest district hq

There is an acute water shortage in Mongo Bendu which is the headquarter town of Falaba, one of the two newest districts in Sierra Leone. The shortage was reported to have caused a lot of discomfort for residents of the town.

According to Finah Marah popularly known as Keita Finah, 50 households in her area depend on only one hand pump well where she normally fetches water for both drinking and domestic use. She told Politico that the well has not been supplying the needed quantity of water to the people in recent days.

A Freetown-based businessman, Mr Ibrahim Sorie Sesay who has several years’ experience in forming and managing grassroots interest groups, as well as in mobilizing people for public interest actions, was elected chairman.

20,000 Solar Lamps to boost Free Quality Education in Sierra Leone

A local company Sewa Energy Resources Limited (SERL) Sierra Leone has donated 20,000 solar lights to the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) as support to the Free Quality Education (FQE) project.

The Chief Executive Officer of the company, Kofi Macauley and his team officially handed over the solar lamps to Ministry officials at New England in Freetown on Wednesday 7th April 2021.

Bo police investigate alleged stolen baby

The Regional criminal investigation department of the Police in Bo is investigating five nurses and a security guard that were on duty at the Bo Government Hospital when a child went missing. 

Police Media and Public Relations Officer, Southern Region  Inspector Mohamed Bobson Senu told Politico that on Sunday 11th April, 2021 they got a call from a nurse reporting the disappearance of a child at the hospital.
