The Light of Kasseh elected its maiden national executive to run the affairs of the fledgling organization for the next two years at a special general meeting held at Kissy Dockyard in Freetown on Sunday 11th April 2021.

A Freetown-based businessman, Mr Ibrahim Sorie Sesay who has several years’ experience in forming and managing grassroots interest groups, as well as in mobilizing people for public interest actions, was elected chairman.

In his initial statement, Mr Sesay thanked the entire membership of the Light of Kasseh for trusting the leadership of the organization in him and he appealed to everyone to put the post-elections sentiments aside and work assiduously together to improve the lives of the people of Kasseh.

“Elections are over. Let us now focus on the work ahead. The journey we have embarked on today is going to be challenging. It will require a lot of our time, resources, commitment, love for one another and flexibility to see us go through successfully.  Let us, therefore, put the past behind us and answer to the urgent call of our people in Kasseh,” Sesay said.

The Light of Kasseh is an indigenous organization formed by descendants of Kasseh chiefdom in Port Loko district last year with the purpose of promoting the welfare and wellbeing of the people, as well as to contribute to the overall development of the chiefdom. It was formally launched at Kagbanthama on 1st January 2021.

Prior to the elections, senior lecturer at the Law Department, Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, Dr Abdul Sorie Kamara who is also an indigene of Kasseh, advised the membership not to allow the elections to create divisions amongst them, but to use the elections as a springboard for charting a clear roadmap for the development of Kasseh.  He further appealed to the elders of the association to engage in effective post-election mediation and peace building in order to speedily address sticky issues that might emerge after the elections.

Veteran journalist and civil society activist, Mr Sallieu Kamara, who was endorsed as Communications Officer of the association, described the newly-elected executive as a rich combination of knowledge, maturity, skills and experience.

“Kasseh chiefdom lags far behind other chiefdoms across the country in terms of every facets of development.  Everything about sustaining lives and livelihoods there is a serious problem for our people. But I’m pretty sure with the calibre of people in the national executive, I’m very hopeful better days are ahead for the people of Kasseh. The work starts now,” Mr Kamara said.
