Sierra Leone Parliament scrutinises cybercrime bill

Members of Parliament have on the 21st June 2021 scrutinised and debated the proposed cybercrime bill in the House of Parliament at Tower Hill, Freetown.

This is the third sitting Parliament has convened with regards the cybercrime bill. The proposed bill is part of the effort of the government to sanitise the country’s cyberspace.

The majority of Parliamentarians were concerned with some of the terms or phrases in specific sections and parts of the proposed bill.

IMC consults Stakeholders on new Code

The Independent Media Commission (IMC) is on an ongoing engagement with stakeholders including media practitioners across Sierra Leone on the revised Independent Media Code of Practice replacing the 2007 code.

The engagement according to one of the Commissioners and one of the facilitators, Dr. Francis Sowa is to get the stakeholders across the 14 political districts of Sierra Leone with Western Area Urban and Rural combined, make their inputs in the document and to make possible changes before it is finalized.

MMCET prepares to run as Sierra Leone’s latest university

The Milton Margai College of Education and Technology (MMCET) has on Wednesday 16th June 2021 ended a two-day academic staff retreat in preparation for its university status by next academic year.  

As declared by Professor Alpha Wurie, Minister of Technical and Higher Education, the college will be the first functional Technical University in Sierra Leone come October 2021.
