Sierra Leone Energy Minister seeks partnership in Ghana

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay together with  senior administrative and professional officials of his Ministry were in Ghana last week to seek partnership with PREFOS Limited, a solar street lights manufacturing company with headquarters in the city of Kumasi.

Sierra Leone joins media freedom coalition.

Following the repeal of the part 5 of the 1965 Public order Act, which criminalized libel and defamation, Sierra Leone has become the 48th member of the Media Freedom Coalition (MFC) that stands to defend media freedom where it is under threat.

Formed at the global conference for media freedom in 2019, MFC comp is a partnership of countries that are working together to advocate for media freedom and safety of journalists as well as to hold to account those responsible for harming journalists for executing their duties.

German plastic recycling company to open in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Germany has told officials of the Institute for Ocean Plastic Recycling in Berlin that waste ocean plastic has contributed to the dwindling of Sierra Leone’s marine resources and is also a major source of water contamination.

The envoy said “anything that helps in addressing the environmental problem would be appreciated by the Government”, according to a release from the embassy in Berlin.

Sierra Leone opposition lawyers ask for more time to hold convention

Lawyers representing the All Peoples Congress (APC) party have asked for an extension of time by the court to conduct their convention. The APC are in court after one of their members from the United States sued them for lack of democratic principles. Alfred Peter Conteh had vowed to instill reforms in the party because he is of the notion that their conduct was outdated and undemocratic.

New Magbele Bridge ready by December

The Project Manager of construction company CSE, Abdulai Mbow has told a group of visiting journalists at the construction site of the new Magbele Bridge along the busy Port Loko highway, that the structure will be ready by December this year. He said major work has been completed, with few remaining work to be done, before the structure is handed over to the government.

New Mass Comm curriculum for Fourah Bay College out soon

A two-day retreat by members of the proposed new faculty of Media and Information Studies of Fourah Bay College has opened in Freetown with a call by the Chairman of the Curriculum Committee of the University of Sierra Leone for the new faculty to  follow all laid down procedures to introduce  new courses in the University.

Professor Alyson Sesay urged the faculty not to rush into implementing all the proposed reforms at the same time and to consider both the human and material resources available to the University before embarking on any sweeping reforms.
