Sierra Leone activates pillars against the Marburg virus

National COVID-19 Emergency Response Centre NaCOVERC’s Communication Pillar Lead, Harold Thomas has told Politico that their priority is to prevent the Marburg disease from entering Sierra Leone. He explained to Politico that they have formed a Rapid Response Team (RRT) that is currently at the country’s border districts.
Court refuses bail to Kamarainba again

Justice Samuel Omodele Taylor has refused a bail application made by Amadu Koroma, counsel representing Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray after the State Prosecutor, Umu Sumaray filed an affidavit in opposition to bail.
“The court is constrained to consider bail at all,” Justice Taylor said.
The proceedings occurred on Thursday 12th August 2021 at the Sexual Offences Model Court in Freetown.
India donates 20,000 bags of rice for Sierra Leone

The Ministry of Health and Sanitation, has commenced a nationwide distribution of 96,000 (50Kg) bags of rice to government health facilities across Sierra Leone. The rice is part of a 20,000 bags of rice donated by the Government of Indian to the people of Sierra Leone.
Sierra Leone Covid19 responder attempts to escape from anti-graft custody

Gibrilla Kamara, a staff of the Western Area Urban District Corona Virus Response Centre (DICOVERC), attempted to flee custody when being transported from the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) Headquarters to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for safe custody, according to Ibrahim Bangura, a court officer at the ACC.
It was on this backdrop that Justice Cosmotina Jarrett refused bail for Kamara on the 11th August 2021.
FBC swears in first female president

Fourah Bay College (FBC) Students Union (SU) President, Adama Sillah has been formally inaugurated as the institution’s first female to hold the position. The event held in the multipurpose hall of the college was graced by mostly representatives of Women Organisations. CEO of Advocacy Movement Network (AMNet) Hawa Samai said the event was unique and believed it will set the pace and prepare the minds of girls to speak out fiercely.
3 EDSA staff convicted of corruption

Justice Simeon Allieu has convicted three staff of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) on misappropriation of public revenue after they were arraigned in court by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Justice Allieu gave his ruling on Wednesday 11th August 2021 at the ACC Court in Freetown after they pleaded guilty.
