WOME calls for inclusion of women into mining governance

As she launched a documentary titled “Amplifying Women’s Voices in Mining Communities”, the Director of Women on Mining and Extractives, (WOME), an advocacy and rights-based Civil Society Organization has called on the government to include women in the decision making process in the mineral sector.

Esther Kandeh said sidelining of women in decision making remains one of the challenges that they continue to face in mining communities.

Ferry service resumes at Gov’t Warf

In an effort to reduce   the hassle that commuters face catching the ferry in the Eastern part of Freetown, another ferry service owned by the government but run by a private entity, has resumed operations at Government Wharf in downtown Freetown, after a seven year break.  The vessel named MV Bai Bureh took its maiden voyage from Government Wharf to the Tagrin terminal at Lungi across the Freetown Bay on Monday 9 August 2021. 

More COVID-19 vaccine doses arrive in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone has yesterday 8th August 2021 received 96,000 more doses of the Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine. The vaccine according to a joint press statement by Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health and Sanitation and it partners was donated by France and  delivered by UNICEF through the COVAX facility that it is part of Europe’s broader efforts to equitable access to vaccines in lower and middle income countries.

No arrests since FBC student was shot dead

The family and colleagues of 24 year old Santigie Karankay Conteh, who was allegedly shot at his Sumaila town residence off Hill side by pass road in Freetown, say they want his killers to be brought to book immediately.

According to family sources, the final honours (1) Mass Communication student of Fourah Bay College got out of his house on the night of 18th July 2021 to ease himself and met his killers. They say they heard three gunshot after which they rushed out and found the deceased in the pool of blood.
