CARL calls for standalone budget for FSU

 The Executive Director of Centre for Accountability and Rule of Law (CARL), Ibrahim Tommy says the organization will continue to advocate for the Family Support Unit (FSU) of the Police because it is underfunded. Addressing journalists in Freetown on Thursday 19 August 2921 he said facilitating access to justice for sexual and gender based violence victims requires a standalone budget for the unit.

Marvin Onyedikachi Obinna, a Zenith bank staff, has for the second time been sent on remand by Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Magistrate Court over corruption allegations.

Obinna together with one Hassan Morie Yajah made their second appearance in court on Thursday 19th August 2021 for preliminary investigations.

Deputy Health Minister turns sod for DHMT complex in Kenema

The Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation (1) in collaboration with the chief medical officer has on the 13th August 2021 formally the turn sod for the construction of an ultra-modern building for the District Health Management Team (DHMT) in Kenema.

The structure will be erected at the Maxwell Khobe Street in Kenema.

Narcotics and Fuel increase inflation in Sierra Leone

Data presented by Statistics Sierra Leone on the monthly inflation rate has indicated that transportation and narcotics amongst other things highly contributed to increase in inflation for the month July. According to the Deputy Statistician General, Andrew Bob Johnny, the inflation rate for July 2021 stood at 10.50%, with an increase of 0.30% compared to 10.20% in June 2021. 

Sierra Leone CSOs deliberate on social accountability

In a bid to hold policy actors and government accountable for their policies and promises made to the people, the Institute of Governance Reform (IGR) and other Civil Society organizations have concluded a day’s conference on social responsibility with the theme, “Social accountability and COVID-19.”

Speaking at the event, IGR’s Director of Research and Policy, Fredline McCormack Hale, said the conference attracted representatives of civil  societies that came together to discuss about social accountability and its challenges.
