In an effort to familiarize with District stakeholders, the first Resident Magistrate, Santigie Ibrahim Sorie Bangura has engaged stakeholders in Falaba District at Mongo Bendugu Town.
The Local Court Supervisor for Koinadugu and Falaba districts Ibrahim Bah commended the justice sector of Sierra Leone for making justice accessible by every Sierra Leonean at districts and community levels. He added that the presence of magistrate’s court in the district is necessary because several cases that need court trials are mostly preceded over by the locals which sometimes died down as a result of inaccessibility to justice.
In his statement, Magistrate, Santigie Ibrahim Sorie Bangura stated that the government of Sierra Leone commits to serve the people as he drew the people's attention to the past senseless civil war which he said the roots caused according to experts was lack of justice and malice that accumulated amongst people. To avoid a repetition of such menace, he said the present government has recruited and deployed judges in almost every district for easy accessibility to justice.
Magistrate Santigie assured the local authorities that he would be doing his judgment in line with the customs and traditions of the people as the traditional leaders have tried in their local ways in maintaining peace in the district.
He said he was glad to learn that the district is peaceful and that he was there to join the authorities to maintain and improve on the already existing peace. Magistrate Bangura promised to engage the traditional leaders and other local authorities to discuss his limitation and as well as the locals for peaceful coexistence.
The Local Court Supervisor Ibrahim S. Bah in his concluding statement warned the chairmen and traditional leaders that they should not decide on any matter beyond their limits as he made reference to sexual penetration, robbery, wounding, murder, etc.
Briefing the audience on their court's seating system in the district Bah said that they would be running the court on a rotational basis between the Sinkunia community in Dembelia Sinkunia chiefdom and Mongo Bendugu as a result of long-distance and difficult road terrain.
The Regent Paramount Chief of Mongo chiefdom Regent Sheku K. Jawara on behalf of other paramount chiefs and stakeholders welcomed and express appreciation of the government's effort for bringing justice to the people of Falaba District which started with high Court and now a resident magistrate. He assured them of their fullest support as far as justice is concerned in the district.
He cautioned all residents in Falaba District to stop all inhuman behaviors and to be law-abiding citizens instead.
