Police chief commends partnership board

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ambrose Sovula has commended the Local Policing Partnership Board (LPPB) for their effort in assisting the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) in curbing crime in the nation.

The IGP was addressing members of the West Division of the LPPB at their monthly meeting on the 28th August 2021 held at the Family Kingdom, Aberdeen in Freetown.

UAE lifts travel suspension on Sierra Leone

The United Arab Emirates (UAE)  on Monday 30th  August  2021 issued a press release announcing the lifting of travel suspension on all countries which were not granted entry to the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the joint statement by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) and the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, starting the 30th August 2021, applications for tourist visas would be open to travelers from all countries.

“He used a stick on me” –says Sierra Leone child victim

A 14 year old girl suspected to have been subjected to sexual abuse has told Justice Samuel Omodele Taylor that one Mohamed Sesay 28 did an anal penetration in her using a stick.

The mentally challenged girl was testifying at the Sexual Offences Model Court in Freetown on Monday 30th August 2021 being led by State Prosecutor, Idrissa Abass Kamara.

40% land cases investigated

The Complaints Committee on Land Disputes in the Western Area has revealed that 40% of 305 cases have been investigated so far. The Chairman of the Committee Alhaji Murtada Mohammed Sesay revealed that 40% of the cases that the committee has examined have helped them “identify entrenched system related issues” which according to him can and must be addressed as matters of great importance.

‘Robber’ hits me with a stick –says District Council Chairman

Joseph Benedict Mbogba, Chairman of Moyamba District Council has told the Freetown High Court no.2 that an accused robber, Edward John hit him with a stick when he tried to apprehend him after a robbery spree in Moyamba Township.

John is the eleventh  accused  out of 16 persons that were arrested and charged to court on allegations of robbery and sexual assault carried out at multiple locations on the night of the 19th May 2019.

Council of Churches of Sierra Leone updates on forest conservation

Conservation Society Sierra Leone (CSSL) has briefed media practitioners on the preservation of the forest ecosystems.

“We believe that with partnership with the media to propagate the essence of the conservation and management of the forest will save this country from a lot of natural disasters,” stated Emurana Kemoh Sowa, National Coordinator of the CSSL.

The CSSL engaged media practitioners on Tuesday 31st August 2021 at the Youths Action for Development (YAD) office on Maxwell Khobe Street in Kenema.

Sierra Leone fire victims cry for help

 A fire incident on Thursday 26 August 2021  25 Grancess Street, Kroo Town Road in Freetown has destroyed several apartments and left dozens of people homeless. The distraught persons have called on the government and other humanitarian organisations to come to their aid.

 Speaking to Politico, one of the landlords Rhoda Edwin said they were thankful that no life was lost in the disaster; though they lost everything they had worked for over the years.
