Life Saving Society to participate in CPR challenge

The head of communication for the Sierra Leone Life Saving Society,  Cecilia Alice Sesay has said that her organization will join  the Royal Life Saving Society, UK and other groups from different regions  in a 48 hour Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) challenge.

Supreme Court decides KKY’s fate today

The Supreme Court is set to decide today whether National Grand Coalition (NGC) party 2018 elections Presidential candidate and Member of Parliament, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella (KKY), will continue to sit in the legislature or forfeits his seat after a citizen, David Fornah challenged his legitimacy, in court.

Duped Sierra Leoneans return from Senegal

Sierra Leonean victims of an online scam arrived in Freetown on Wednesday 1 August, 2021 . They are expected to meet with officials at the Ministry of Social Welfare today, according to  Ishmael Bayoh, the Information  Attache’ at the Sierra Leone Embassy in  Senegal. 31 people were victims of the scam which made them to part with $1,000 each, with the promise of jobs in Senegal that could earn them a monthly pay cheque of $1,000.  They were found in the town of Thies  just outside Dakar and were then visited by Ambassador Alhaji Brima Elvis Koroma.

BAN rates Finance Ministry rated in information disclosure

Budget Advocacy Network (BAN) has launched a scorecard on the first six months of 2021, with emphasis on selected mandatory information disclosure as per the 2016 Public Financial Management (PFM) Act and Regulations. According to their findings on the fiscal financial statement, the Ministry of Finance scored 53% for publishing the information , and got just 23%  for not publishing the statement whilst only 24% were said to have been produced but not published. BAN also rated the Ministry’s compliance to the PFM Act as average.   

Police detain gang-rape suspect for 94 days without trial

Three men are in Police custody in Falaba , suspected of gang raping a 20 year-old lactating mother. The  incident happened on 1 June 2021 in Kombili village in the Morifindugu Chiefdom.

The victim said  she was in the village to attend a meeting, a short distance  from her  family’s cattle ranch . She said in the night she went to a makeshift toilet,  leaving her baby inside the house.  She said 5 men confronted her at the entrance to the toilet, who then dragged her  to a nearby bush where they took turns to rape her.
