Sierra Leone gets Chief Medical Examiner

Following his appointment as the new Chief Medical Examiner by President Julius Maada Bio, Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma is set to face the house of Parliament any time soon for approval of his appointment.  

 “You are kindly advised to contact the clerk of parliament who will arrange a meeting with committee on appointments and the public service of parliament to consider your appointment,” his appointment letter reads in part.

Bo Rangers appoints two foreign coaches

Ahead of the Sierra Leone Premier league slated to resume on 11 September 2021, the leading team of the Sierra Leone Premier League, Bo Rangers has on Monday 6th September 2021 unveiled two foreign coaches to fans at the Club House in Bo.  

Jose Solomon Cortes, a Swedish national was appointed head coach of the team while Mamadou Camara, a Guinean national was appointed goalkeeper coach.

Sierra Leonean charged with rape alongside Manchester City star

Authorities in the United Kingdom have accused Louis Saha Matturie who is said to have originated from Sierra Leone with four rape charges over the last weekend in the ongoing trail of Benjamin Mendy of Man city football club.

 Louis Saha Matturie, 40, who appeared before magistrates in Chester according to a report by UK’s local tabloid, the Sun Newspaper, was described in court as Mendy’s “runner”.  

The defendant who wept during proceedings spoke only to confirm his name and address.

UN Special Representative meets Sierra Leone president

The new Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel, Annadif Khatir Mahamat Salehon on Monday 6th September 2021 paid a courtesy call on President Julius Maada Bio during which he applauded his “ongoing institutional reforms in the country”.

Policeman pleads guilty to manslaughter charges

Police Sergeant (7542), Mohamed Kanu, 35, at the High Court in Freetown has pleaded guilty to the unlawful killing of one Salifu Turay (RSLAF 18167125) who was a military officer.

Kanu was said to have killed Turay on a Wednesday 18th March 2015 along Bathurst-Gloucester Road in the Western Area Rural District.

Supreme Court vindicates KKY over dual citizenship

The Supreme Court of Sierra Leone has dismissed with costs, a lawsuit challenging the eligibility of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) leader to contest the 2018 general and presidential elections.

In the ruling the court, presided over by Hon. Justice Nicholas Browne-Marke said that Hon. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella (KKY) who represents constituency 062 in Kambia district presented his affidavits to the court that included copies of documents authenticating his renunciation of his US citizenship.
