Training to capacitate SMEs starts

In a bid to improve the capacity of owners of Small and Medium businesses across the country, the Sierra Leone Agriprocessing Competitiveness Project (SLAPCP) has engaged the entire personnel of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDA) in a five-day training of trainers’ exercises in Freetown.

Le 6.5 Billion for Kenema Government Hospital

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Health and Sanitation has handed over a 6.5 billion Leone project for the rehabilitation of the Kenema government hospital to Broad Engineering and Construction Company. The hospital is the main referral unit for all cases in the district and its environs.

Calls for gas stations to increase staff knowledge

National Disaster Management Agency’s (NDMA) Director of Risk Reduction and Preparedness Thomas Lebbie has called on gas station owners and managers to equip their staff with knowledge on fire management.

“Fuel Station owners should be organizing refresher courses for their staff to increase their knowledge on fire management, fire prevention, and evacuation,” said Lebbie. The Director made this call during a risk assessment drive that is designed to be rolled out across the country.

Southern Region gets new Police boss

The Southern Region of Sierra Leone now has a new Police boss. She is Commissioner of Police (CP) Halary Sao Kanu. She explained to Politico about her level of preparedness in providing the people of the region with better security. 

The officer said her first task is to engage commanders in the four districts in the region on the way and manner she would want the residents in the south to be policed.

US Ambassador hails Sierra Leone’s epidemic control

The United States Ambassador, David Reimer says Sierra Leone is marching towards epidemic control. The Envoy made the assertion whilst addressing health workers at the close of five day training on the US President’s Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAR) at the Bintumani hotel in Freetown last Friday.

“This training and the site level support that will follow, will enable you to improve the services and outcomes in your communities and contribute to the rapidly improving National HIV Response”, the ambassador said.

Sierra Leone to manufacture plywood

As the government of Sierra Leone signed a trade agreement with the Miro Forestry and Timber, the Business Operations Manager of Miro Forestry and Timber, Le Roux Dupper, has said that the company is set to start production of hardwoods (Plywood) with ‘best quality in Sierra Leone and export to other countries this year.
