Acute malnutrition worsens in Western Area

The Head of the Directorate of Food and Nutrition (DFN) Ms. Aminata Koroma during a presentation at the Launching of the Sierra Leone National Nutrition Survey 2021 (SLNNS) in Freetown last week has stated that acute malnutrition amongst children has worsened in Western Area Rural and Urban settlements that require attention.

SLAJ Popularizes, Cyber Security and Crime Act

 The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists is on a drive to popularize the Cyber Security and Crime Act 2021 among journalists across the country.

The activity is part of a nationwide project implemented by SLAJ, a Cyber Safe Sierra Leone aimed at educating its members on the Cyber Security & Crime Act, 2021 and its related offences. 

Judicial week frees up correctional centres

The Sierra Leone Judiciary granted bail to 374 inmates after a review of 870 cases across Sierra Leone. This was done in respect of what they called “Access to Justice through Judicial Week” that commenced from the 31st January to 4th February 2022.

According to the judiciary, 26 Judges were in charge of the process of reviewing and analyzing a myriad of cases in courts nationwide. This was “to increase access to justice and decongesting Correctional Centres across the country”.

EU Implements 245 million Euro projects for Sierra Leone

In an effort to ensure the implementation of the Sierra Leone-European Union Multi-Annual Indicative Programme (MIP)  that spans from 2021-2027, the EU Ambassador to Sierra Leone Manuel Muller has said two hundred and forty-five million Euro (245 Million Euro) has already been committed for its implementation.

The Interview: Minister of Youth, Mohamed “Orman” Bangura

Mohamed ‘Orman’ Bangura was in 2018 appointed Minister of Youth Affairs by President-elect at the time, Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio. Bangura is in charge of a ministry that handles matters related to the youth who make up a greater percentage of Sierra Leone’s population.
