Sierra Leone lights up Masiaka

Masiaka Town in Koya Chiefdom has for the first time received a "no tax power supply" after the Minister of Energy Alhaji Kanja Sesay switched on the light on the 25th February 2022 during the commissioning of the mini-grid in the community. During the programme, the Minister said the people will enjoy electricity without any tax.

Sierra Leone ambassador chairs WTO TRIPS

Sierra Leone’s ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone to the United Nations, WTO, and other International Organizations in Geneva, Switzerland has on Friday 25th February 2022 been unanimously appointed by the World Trade Organization (WTO) General Council to serve as the chair of the Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) Council.

Lansana Gberie was among 13 chairpersons appointed to steer WTO bodies for the year 2022.

FBNBank Sierra Leone gets new boss

FBNBank Sierra Leone has appointed Udeme O. Udoh as the new Managing Director. He succeeds Gbenga Odeyemi whose two-year period has ended.

Udoh is a graduate of Finance with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. He takes over with a wealth of experience in banking spanning over 20 years.

Sources at the bank said he has a proven record of “competence and ground-breaking professional expertise that would certainly go a long way in serving the corporate goals of FBNBank Sierra Leone”.

Eastern Technical University enrolls first 2,538 Students

The Eastern Technical University (ETU) of Sierra Leone has on the 26th February 2022, held its first Matriculation ceremony at the institution’s campus in Kenema with a total of two thousand five hundred and thirty-eight (2538) students for the 2022 - 2023 academic year.

In his statement, the Chairman of the ceremony Dr. Mohamed Combo Kamanda described the event as the first since the institution’s transformation from a Polytechnic into a technical university.

Work begins to overhaul Sierra Leone's main stadium

A $40 million revamp of the Siaka Stevens Stadium is set to commence after turning of the sod at the facility on Friday 25 February 2022. The symbolic event was jointly undertaken by the Minister of Development and Economic Planning Dr. Francis KaiKai and China’s Ambassador to Sierra Leone.

The country’s main stadium located in the west of Freetown will undergo extensive rehabilitation and the construction of additional structures within the complex, which was first built by the Chinese Government in 1979.
