57 years jail term for armed robber

44-year-old Motor Mechanic Mustapha Kabba has been sentenced to 57 years imprisonment for the offence of Robbery with aggravation against Octogenarian, Dr. Kitty Fadlu-Deen.

The judgment on Thursday 3rd March 2022 by Court of Appeal Judge, Justice Komba Kamanda came after an eleven-member jury unanimously returned a guilty verdict in respect of a four-count indictment including robbery with aggravation, attempting to strangle, and causing grievous bodily harm.

Paramount Chief of Penguya Chiefdom reinstated

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD), Tamba Lamina has officially reinstated Paramount Chief (PC) Samuel Sheku Jibila of Penguya Chiefdom in Kailahun District on the 4th March 2022.

PC Jibila left his Chiefdom in 2018 following a conflict with his Chiefdom residents that left his house and other properties destroyed.

4 kids drown in mining enclaves in eastern Sierra Leone

Authorities in Kono have confirmed the death of four children after they reportedly drowned in pits of abandoned mining sites in some parts of the villages in the eastern Kono District. 

The three girls and one boy were said to be under the age of 15. 

According to the Paralegal in Kamara Chiefdom, Tamba Amidu Nyukeh, the incidents occurred on the same day of Sunday 27 February 2022 but at different locations.

Free Medical Screening for Lecturers of Eastern Technical University

Lecturers of Eastern Technical University (ETU) in Kenema are going through free medical screening for diabetes, blood pressure, weight and other illnesses. The check-ups were being done by Daisy and Jabbie Physiotherapy Centre in collaboration with the medical laboratory department of the university.

Victor Foh’s errand boy in High Court

Former Vice President Victor Bockarie Foh has testified in a Bo court against his former errand boy Baba Kamara who was facing various charges related to fraudulent conversion. 

He said he has known Kamara since the year 2000 and that the accused did his errands.  

He said he bought a house at Third Street in Bo at a cost of Eighty million Leones (80,000,000.00) and was making part payments.

He told the court that Kamara took away his house chairs, motorbike, and televisions.

Njala concludes fresher’s matriculation

Njala University, has on Thursday 4th December 2022 completed matriculation ceremonies for all freshmen under graduate students for its campuses across Sierra Leone. With the Towama and Kowama campuses in Bo registering more than 3, 000 students. 

Matriculation ceremony for the post graduate students according to the university’s Public Relations Officer, Ayouba Koroma has been indefinitely suspended by the university.
