Sierra Leone energy agency calls for help as thieves on the rampage

The Electricity Distribution and Supply Agency, EDSA has condemned the “wanton vandalization of electrical installations across the country with specific reference to our secondary substations”. In a statement widely circulated on social media, the institution described that attack on their installations as a “deliberate ploy by mischief makers to take the shine out of the Authority’s quest to provide reliable and accessible electricity for citizens”.

Sierratel workers demand Bio’s intervention

Workers of the Sierra Leone Telecommunications Company (Sierratel), have in a peaceful protest demanded the intervention of President Julius Maada Bio over their challenging working conditions.

The workers carrying placards lined along the Cotton Tree Area, in central Freetown last Thursday, demanding payment of their seven month salary backlog. They also asked for the provision of medical and leave allowances, the latter which they claimed, they have been deprived of, for the last three years.

Deputy Correctional head admonishes officers

The Deputy Director General of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service- Colonel David Ngaujah has told officers at the Kenema Correctional Centre to remain steadfast, devoted, and patient while discharging their duties.

He said he understood all the challenges the officers were facing, saying that should not make them to relent but work hard.

Chaos in Sierra Leone parliament, Police boss requests to interview MPs

Clerk of Parliament of Parliament Paran Umar Tarawally has said that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has through his office requested for the Speaker to release Members of Parliament for investigation.

“Invitations have already been issued for the said perpetrators to be interview by police” said Tarawally. He made this revelation on the 24th November 2022 in parliament, whilst reading a report related to scuffles that occurred on the 23rd November 2022  in Parliament. 

Sierra Leone starts voter verification

Yesterday 24th November 2022, the Electoral Commission Sierra Leone (ECSL) officially commenced the voter verification process.

The verification is being done so that people can cross check and know if their information was correct.

APC spokesman says court’s judgment fair

The Publicity Head of the Interim Governance Transition Committee (IGTC), All People’s Congress (APC) Sulaiman Bumneh Kamara has said that the judgment delivered by Justice Adrian Fisher in the matter on contempt against Committee Chairman Alfred peter Conteh was fair for both sides.

He made this disclosure in an interview with the State Broadcaster on the 24th November, 2022.
