Sierra Leone braces up for measles outbreak as neighbours battle outbreak

Following report of measles outbreak in Liberia and other countries in Africa, Sierra Leone’s Risk Communications officer at the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Harold Thomas has assured of the country’s preparedness to deal with potential outbreak of the disease in the country, noting that there is enough vaccines in the country for children less than five years.

South Korea opens Consulate in Sierra Leone

In commemoration of 60th Anniversary of friendship between South Korea and Sierra Leone, the former, has opened its new honorary Consulate in Freetown, in further efforts to deepen ties.

The consulate is at Wilkinson Road in Freetown where the ceremony to mark its opening took place on Wednesday 30th November, 2022.

 South Korea’s new honorary consul is a businessman in Sierra Leone, Mahesh C. Nandwani.

AU, GIZ boost Sierra Leone Peace Commission

The initiative by the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC) to establish a Situation Room has been boosted with support from the African Union and partners- the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), Addis Ababa Office.

Freetown hosts Tax for Development Conference

The International Centre for Tax and Development (ICTD) and Budget Advocacy Network (BAN) are set to co-host a two-day conference featuring recent research on taxation, at the Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel in Freetown.

The conference which will take place from the 7th to 8th December this year is first of its kind to be hosted in Sierra Leone according to the organizers, and will be undertaken in partnership with the National Revenue Authority and Ministry of Finance.

Domestic workers in Sierra Leone get certified

With Support from the World Bank and the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education, under the Skills Development Fund (SDF), the Office of Domestic Support Service Agency (ODSSA) has awarded certificates to 50 different categories of domestic workers.

The certification ceremony was held at the Saphyre Court Multi-Purpose Hall and Recreation Centre in Freetown on Friday 2nd December, 2022.  

The domestic workers include 9 cooks, 14 waiters and waitresses, 11 house keepers, 14 child caregivers, and two supervisors.

ACC monitors safety nets payment

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has commenced monitoring payment of 9,900 beneficiaries of the Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT)  that commenced in various parts of Freetown on Wednesday 30th November 2022.

ACC’s involvement in the process is part of the Grievance Redress Mechanism component of the social safety nets project to prevent acts that will lead to corruption practices.
