SLAJ President urges media to sensitize voters

President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), Ahmed Sahid Nasralla has called on Media Houses to sensitize voters in the upcoming June elections by providing accurate, balanced, and factual information.

He made this call during the Sierra Leone Bar Association’s (SLBA) Annual General Meeting at Fabulous Resort, York Village, Western Rural District.

Police statement contradicts accused’s court denial

A statement made by alleged  Qnet fraudster, 24-year-old Shaka Mansaray, earlier to the Police, contradicted his denial in a court of receiving NLE 30,000 (Thirty thousand new Leones) from the complainant, Sinnah Aminata Kamara, for her travel abroad, a Freetown Court heard.

The written statement was read out to Magistrate Mark Ngegba of the Pademba Road Court No.1 on Monday 20th March 2023.

KISSOSA recognizes information minister

The Kenema Islamic Secondary School Old Students Association (KISSOSA) through the initiative of the Teachers of the School has recognized the Minister of Information and Communications, Mohamed Rahman Swarray by launching a Foundation in his name.

The event was geared towards recognizing the efforts of the minister in promoting human capital development in education.

The launch took place at the Islamic Secondary School campus in Kenema on the 18th of March 2023.

Sierra Leoneans demand not more than 30% political appointments per region

The 2023 Citizens’ manifesto is demanding that the next administration should ensure not more than 30% of government appointees should be from one region.

Executive Director for the Institute of Governance Reform (IGR) Andrew Lavali during his presentation at the launch of the citizens manifesto consultative process on 15th March 2023 said: “The next government should evenly distribute appointments to regions, no region should have below 15% of the appoint and none should get above 30% of the appointments”.

DSTV reduces subscription cost for Sierra Leone subscribers

Transnational Ltd, the distributor in Sierra Leone for the South Africa-based satellite television provider Multi-Choice (better known as DSTV) has announced reductions in the cost of monthly subscriptions for the various categories of the products offered.  

DSTV Premium, Compact Plus, Compact, Family, and Access are the products that would see price reductions effective 1April 2023.

Transnational SL made the announcement at a press conference held at the Country Lodge in Freetown on 16 March 2023.

UN gives Sierra Leone’s rights commission Grade A

The United Nations (UN) through its autonomous body known as Global Alliance for National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) has again awarded the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone with a Grade A Certificate.

The re-accreditation certificate was presented at GANHRI’s Annual General Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland on 15th March, 2023 and was received by the Chair and Vice Chairpersons of the Commission, Patricia Nansu Ndanema and Lawyer Victor Idrissa Lansana .
