A High Court in Freetown will today 13 March, deliver its verdict in the trial of popular rap musician Alhaji Amadu Bah commonly known as LAJ.
The hip-hop star has been going through the courts since June 2022 beginning with Preliminary Investigations by a magistrate in Freetown and a trial before Justice Adrian Fisher. The judge refused bail applications made by lawyers representing the accused, upholding objections by state prosecutors.

Residents in the five Chiefdoms where Rutile is being mined have expressed their dismay at Sierra Rutile Mining Company following what they described as the ‘influx’ of foreign companies and contractors to their communities without consulting them as authorities of the land.
In an open letter locals wrote to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company recently, they also expressed concern at the prioritization of foreigners as against Sierra Leoneans when it comes to employment opportunities.

The Bank of Sierra Leone (BSL) has extended use of the Old Leone notes until 31st December, 2023, according to a notice issued by the bank on the 10th March, 2023.
The bank informed the public that if there is no further extension to the aforementioned date, on the 1st January, 2024, everyone should cease using them as legal tender in Sierra Leone.

The Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), Mohamed Fuaad Daboh, says workers in the informal sector, who make up 92% of the economically active population remain uncovered by any formal social protection system.
Daboh was speaking at a NASSIT-organized workshop for journalists at the Galliness Paradise Hotel in Bo on Friday 10th March 2023 that members of this sector are exposed to the risk of losing livelihoods in an event of shocks.

Sierra Leone’s First Female Independent Member of Parliament, Emilia Lolloh Tongi of Constituency 001in Kailahun District has called on women to overcome any form of intimidation or stereotyping based on their gender, which she said could hinder their progress.
In an interview with Politico on the 7th of March 2023, she encouraged women to pursue their goals, asserting that they should not be afraid as there are now laws that protect them from being intimidated and that likely offenders could now face punishment.

As they celebrate their 15th anniversary, Members of Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL), a female media body in Sierra Leone have committed to the promotion of female politicians in the upcoming June 24 2023 elections and beyond.
The organisation last Friday held its annual general meeting and elections at the Atlantic hotel in Freetown on the Theme: ‘Positioning Female Journalists to Promote Women in Politics’.
