Police of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) have visited the apparent murder scene at Sumalia Town of 22-year-old Namisa Fatmata Kamara. 

The university student was reported missing on 1 August 2022, and her slain body was found in a shallow grave on the 9 August at the compound of the Bobanie-Browns. 

Led by the head of the CID, RPG Robert, Saturday’s visit by investigators was the first since August. 

Two arrests were made for questioning of a man and a woman who live in the neighborhood.

Seven women suffering from breast cancer have undergone surgery at the Kenema Government Hospital. District Medical Superintendent Dr. Ibrahim Mark Kapuwa led the team of medic that conducted the removal of tumours.

Dr. Kapuwa told Politico that a lot of women are suffering from breast cancer and that there is need for action by medical practitioners to help those that are battling with the disease.

The Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) in a document widely circulated on social media has highlighted its candidate selection process for the Local Council Elections under the District Block System citing the Public Election Act of 2022, the Local Government Act of 2022 and the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone.

The guidelines noted that for one to be considered eligible for elections, they must be a citizen of Sierra Leone and a member of the SLPP continuously for at least three years before application for the position.

Western Region Electoral Commissioner, Zainab Umu Moseray has told a gathering of stakeholders to discuss promoting access to information that national identity supersedes political differences, as the June Elections approach.

She said the polls will come and go but citizens’ identity as Sierra Leonean will always remain.

She spoke about the Electoral Commission’s capacitating of media practitioners and the provision of applications that will be used to confirm election results per districts.

The Chairman of the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) Abdullai M. Bangura has said some political parties may not be able to contest the upcoming 2023 general elections because they are not functional which contravenes the PPRC Act of 2022.

An Appeal Court Judge, Justice Monfred Sesay, has said the judiciary of Leone has set up a court for election offences and petitions  coming from election disputes, that will be addressed within four months.

Justice Sesay disclosed this to stakeholders at a Seminar on the state of the electoral justice system in Sierra Leone held at the Country Lodge Hotel in Freetown on Thursday 23^rd March 2023.

The programme was organised by a local civil society organization, Centre for Rule of Law and Accountability (CARL).
