NAYCOM calls for Youth participation in elections

In order to foster peaceful, credible, and inclusive electoral processes in Sierra Leone, the National Youth Commission (NAYCOM) has urged Youths to participate without violence in the upcoming June 24th general elections in the country.

Officials of the commission made this statement during a National Consultation and Planning Meeting held at the New Brookfields Hotel on the 18th April 2023.

Alleged visa fraudsters remanded

Magistrate Mark Ngegba has sent two accused visa fraudsters, 23-year-old first accused, Manso Lamin Koroma of 19 Tengbeh town and a 31-year-old second accused man, Sullaiman Sesay commonly known as “Muffy” of Main Motor Road Wilberforce, Freetown on remand for allegedly obtaining money by fraudulent means from different people with the promise of facilitating their travel to Canada.

Violent August 10 protest in Sierra Leone was politically motivated, says investigation committee report

Report by the Special Investigations  Committee set by President Julius Maada Bio  to   investigate the  August 10 protest’s organisers,  planners, Funders and most importantly to make recommendations for action that would prevent a recurrence of the violent August 10 protest has indicated that the protest was politically motivated .

The committee also noted that from interviews conducted across the country, the protest was blamed on the current economic situation in the country which it stated was exploited by politicians. 

Sierra Leone parliament ratifies 120 MW Bikongor III electricity Project

The parliament of Sierra Leone has ratified the contract agreement signed by the Ministries of Energy Finance and the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), for the 120MW Bikongor III electrification Project.

The project aims to construct, install, supply and commission a Hydro Power Plant for a period of 25 years with Nokorko Resources Limited and their partners.

Kono records highest physical assault cases – Rainbo Initiative

Kono District, according to the Rainbo Initiative, is said to have recorded the highest report of physical assault in 2022 among six District centres of Sierra Leone.

Speaking at the launch of the Rainbo Initiative’s Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) Survivors’ Data 2022 on the 5th April 2023, Executive Director of Rainbo Initiative Daniel Kettor explained that 65% of people that reported physical assault to them were from Kono.
