Sierra Leone's largest slum calls for support to fix COVID-19 isolation center

The Community Health Officer in-charge of the community health center in Kroo Bay has pleaded for support to fix the isolation center in the clinic.

David Nyuma Vanney, who spoke to Politico on Wednesday said they didn’t have a mattress to lay on the bed or doors to fix at both ends of the center.

“We have a temporary isolation center where we are supposed to keep patients before ambulance arrives for them. But we have a bed with no mattress. There are also no doors at the entrance and the exit,” he said.

Action Against Hunger supports PHUs to fight Corona in Sierra Leone

The charity Action Against Hunger (AAH) is currently rolling out a project aimed at supporting Public Health Units (PHU) across the Western Area as part of efforts to fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.

The project which is targeting 22 PHUs provides Infection Prevention Control materials for the clinics for the protection of health workers and their patients.

Magistrate Hannah Bonnie has admitted former Social Welfare Minister, Dr. Sylvia Blyden to a 500 million Leone bail with two sureties resident in Freetown. One of the sureties should own property worth not less than one billion Leones with a building permit subject to the approval of the Master and Registrar of the High court.

Stakeholders announce plans to sue Sierra Leone FA

A member of the Western Rural Football Association, Kasho Hollande-Cole has said they will be suing the Sierra Leone Football Association in the coming weeks.

Cole who belongs to a faction of the membership known as “Stakeholders” said the suit comes after exhausting all options in the last three months.

No date has been secured for what promises to be a crucial trial for the future of the country’s football.

Hollande-Cole said they will challenge almost every decision that came out of the Kenema congress.

New council tax regime may hike rent in Sierra Leone’s capital

A revised property tax regime by the Freetown City Council (FCC) could have dire consequences for tenants in the capital city by increasing the cost of rent.

The tax system which is expected to go into effect anytime, has already left many residents of Freetown concerned. Some took to social media to condemn it.
