Agric ministry engages stakeholders on Regional Rice Value Chain project

In an effort to reduce rice importation and increase production in the country by 50%, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, through the Regional Rice Value Chain Project (RRVCP), has engaged key stakeholders in Kambia and Bonthe districts. The reason for the engagement is to identify districts and solicit their support and full participation in the acquisition of the farmland and the expected role of the community and district stakeholders in the implementation of the project.

Land rights campaigners call for action on MCC score card

Despite Sierra Leone’s impressive performance in the 2020 Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Scorecard, land rights activists have expressed dissatisfaction over its failure on the indicator concerning Land Rights and Access.

The country scored 24% on land rights and access, and 38% on Natural Resource Protection. The campaigners are therefore calling for the government’s swift action on addressing some of the obvious causes of what they described as consistent poor performances in that regard.

Sierra Leone launches major expansion of airport

President Julius Maada Bio on Thursday officially commissioned a major expansion project at the Lungi International Airport.

The project entails the construction of a new terminal, designed to increase passenger accommodation, among others.

The development is a fulfilment of the Bio administration’s promise to revamp the country’s only international airport, which has been at the center of discussion recently over its role in the promotion of the tourism sector.

GTI lecturers go seven months without pay

Deputy UN chief visits Sierra Leone

The Deputy United Nations Secretary-General (DSG), Amina Mohammed, is scheduled to arrive in Freetown this Saturday, the UN Country Office has announced.

Ms Mohammed will be in the country for a two-day official visit (November 14 to 15).

The statement from the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Freetown said the visit is part of a solidarity mission to West Africa and the Sahel region.
