Mines Minister supports Njala University

The Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources Timothy Musa Kabba has presented computer equipment worth $70 thousand towards the creation of a GIS laboratory for the Institute of Geography and Development Studies (IGDS) in the School of Environmental Sciences at Njala University.

 During the handing over event on Friday 28th May 2021, the minister encouraged the university to advance and contribute meaningfully to the efficient management of the country’s mineral resources. 

African Union honours Sierra Leone’s First Lady

Sierra Leone’s first Lady, Fatima Bio has on Thursday 27th May 2021 been honoured as the Champion of Sanitation and Hygiene in Africa by the African Ministers' Council on Water, (AMCOW) 

The reward according to reports is in recognition of her role  in ensuring that women and girls have access to a clean and safe environment, citing her landmark ‘Hand’s Off Our Girls’ campaign and programmes, which triggered a nationwide distribution of free sanitary pads to public  school going children across the country.

BBC has very strict standards – Umaru Fofana tells varsity students

In response to allegations of him being selective of the stories he reports to the British Broadcasting Corporation on Sierra Leone, especially political ones, the correspondent for the world’s leading broadcaster in Sierra Leone, Umaru Fofana says there is a difference between reporting for a local news outlet and a global one like the BBC. 

“The BBC works under strict standards”, he said, noting that he doesn’t report based on what someone wants him to report for their self-servicing reasons. 

Liberian delegation on a study tour in Sierra Leone

A 20-man delegation from Liberia arrived in Sierra Leone on the 26th of May 2021 in a bid to study the management of the country's road sector, especially the operations of the toll system. 

The delegation comprises the Acting Minister of Public Works, staff of the National Road Fund of Liberia, and members of the Liberian Parliament. Upon arrival, the team met with key stakeholders in Sierra Leone’s road sector at the Radisson Blu hotel in Freetown. 

New Sierra Leone district gets more NPSE centres

The West African Examinations Council through the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education has created nine more National Primary School Examinations (NPSE) Centres in Falaba District for the 2021 examinations year making it 12.
