Pademba Road Prison to relocate to Songo

Chief Minister, Jacob Jusu Saffa has urged stakeholders at the Correctional Centre in Freetown to expedite the relocation process of the Pademba Road facility to Songo just outside Freetown.

The maximum security prison was established on the 14th March 1914, by British colonial government to hold 324 inmates. The facility now accommodates over 2,000 inmates, which rights groups have repeatedly denounced.

Accused freed in sexual penetration case

26- year-old Mohamed Mansaray was on Monday 26th July 2021 freed of Sexual offence by Justice Momoh-Jah Stevens at the Sexual Model Court in Freetown.

Mansaray was indicted on a count of sexual penetration. The prosecution alleged that Mansaray had a sexual intercourse with a child on the 17th March, 2020 in Freetown.

The State led 3 witnesses including the alleged victim in the matter and her mother.

Steel Company for  Songo

An investment company that will process and manufacture steel in Sierra Leone has commenced clearing of trees and thickets at its proposed one hundred and fifty hectares land site at Songo in the Koya rural district, outside of Waterloo.  

The company named Odhav Multi Industries will employ some one thousand and two hundred Sierra Leoneans who according to the Trade Minister Dr. Hinga Sandi will form about 95% of the company’s workforce, in line with the government’s emphasis on the Local Content Policy.

ACC investigator testifies against former Minister

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigator, Brima Sesay has testified in the matter involving former Minister of Youth, Alimamy Kamara at the ACC court in Freetown.

Sesay said he was on the 26th July 2021 part of a team of investigators that questioned the former minister on allegation that he failed to declare his asset in his 9 years as public servant.

Plan Int’l closes project for girl’s education in parts of Sierra Leone
