PRA suspends petrol stations

The Petroleum Regulatory Agency (PRA) has suspended five gas stations as a result of artificial shortage of petroleum products created by the dealers in the country particularly into the New Year, despite the country being sufficiently stocked according to the regulatory agency.

The action of majority of the dealers led to an increase in the prices of petroleum products in the black markets and subsequently a sharp increase in transportation fare across the country especially in the city.

Descendants support vulnerable groups

The Descendants of Kindia town section in Bo, Southern Sierra Leone on the 1st January 2022 supported the disabled, aged, and other vulnerable groups in the community with bags of rice.

Giving an overview of the association, its Chairman, Ibrahim Kondeh said the one-year-old organization is aimed at helping every indigene of the community when in need. He explained how they had done so for one of their own who needed surgery that required the sum of ten million Leones but which the family could not afford at the time.

Census compliance high- Statistics Sierra Leone

The Director of Communications and Public Relations at Statistics Sierra Leone, Samuel Ansumana says the level of compliance to the Mid- Term Population and Housing Census has been high. Speaking to Politico he said a higher percentage of the population has been counted and that only a smaller proportion is left.

The Chairman and Leader of National Unity and Reconciliation Party (NURP), Dr.Jonathan PJ Sandy says there should be a national reflection, twenty years after the country’s civil war officially ended on the 18th January, 2002. Speaking to Politico ahead of a series of events planned by NURP for the next one week in memory of the strife that lasted for eleven years, Sandy said it should be a national reconciliation week.

Sierra Leone president bids farewell to national football team ahead of AfCON

Players of the country’s national football team, Leone Stars, have taken leave of President Julius Maada Bio as they head for the African Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon, their first in a quarter of a century.

The president told the players to make the country proud by lifting the trophy. He said Sierra Leone had been in the football wilderness for far too long and believed it was time they changed the narrative.

Sierra Leone CSO to probe death of baby in a police cell

AdvocAid, a Civil Society Organisation in Sierra Leone is investigating the death of a 17-month-old baby in a police cell in Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone.

“AdvocAid will be investigating this matter further and calls on the Independent Police Complaints Board and Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone to also undertake an investigation,” the organisation said in a press release issued on the 27th December 2021.

Sierra Leone president assures his party of victory in 2023

As delegates of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) endorsed President Julius Maada Bio to hoist the party’s flag in the 2023 General Elections, the president has assured party supporters of victory again against their arch-rivals, the main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) party.

The endorsement came on the first day of the SLPP convention which took place in Bo from 29th and 30th of December 2021.
