Youth Ministry introduces Youth Innovation

The Ministry of Youth Affairs together with the Directorate of Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSTI) and the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) have introduced what is called Youth Innovation Challenge wherein students, business and creative people will be able to promote or showcase their various activities through virtual means.

Women champion stone mining

What people will normally refer to as a man’s job is slowly being taken over by women. Granite stone mining has become a source of livelihood for many in the Freetown municipality, with women becoming champions in the art of it.

Politico visited different sites to see how women get on with the business. 58-year-old Adama Samura who resides at HillTop community at Hill Station stated that stone mining has helped her immensely.

UMC to Elect New Bishop Tomorrow

The United Methodist Church (UMC) is set to elect a new Bishop during a four-day conference which commenced on Thursday 3rd March 2022 at Tebit Memorial Church, Messima Section in Bo. The position has been vacant since the death last year by the road accident of Bishop John K. Yambasu.

Four men, Reverend Professor Edwin Momoh, Reverend Francis Ben Charley, Reverend Emmanuel Pewa, and Reverend Boye Caulker are vying for the Bishop position.

ACC reintroduces Whistleblowers Reward Scheme

Sierra Leone fuel price increase sparks public concern

Public transport drivers and commuters in Freetown have expressed concerns over the recent 20% increase in the pump price of petroleum products announced on Monday 28 February 2022 by the Petroleum Regulatory Agency (PRA).

According to the PRA release, the price of petrol, diesel, kerosene, and other petroleum products was readjusted from Le 10,000 to Le 12,000 effective yesterday 1 March 2022.

Sierra Leone’s Statistician-General is Number 2 man at UN body

Sierra Leone’s Statistician-General Professor Osman Sankoh is now Vice-Chair of the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC). He was unanimously elected following his nomination by the Government in Freetown through the country’s Permanent Mission to the UN in New York, the United States. Before his latest position, Prof. Sankoh in the recent past twice served as Rapporteur at the Commission in March 2020 and March 2021.
