NASSIT urged to invest in the media

The President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has called on officials of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) to invest in the development of Sierra Leone media, noting that it is an investment in the democracy and good governance of the state.

Doctors concerned over paycut

 The President of the Sierra Leone Medical and Dental Association Edries A. Tejan says their salaries for the month of May experienced deductions of 20 percent and over. This was made public at a Mid- Year Conference of the association held at the Brookfield’s Hotel in Freetown last Saturday.

The Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist said apart from their take-home pay, they have some allowances mentioned in an agreement between doctors and the government due to COVID, as an allowance for all health workers.

The end of Search for Common Ground, dawn of Talking Drum Studio

After 20 years of working in Sierra Leone, Search for Common Ground (SCG), one of the leading organizations that seeks to support peace building in conflict areas, has ended operations in Sierra Leone.

This means the Talking Drum Studio (TDS), which was a programme under SCG throughout its operations, will now continue to operate as usual. As such TDS will henceforth be independent.

Prison officers urged to uphold Human Rights standards

United Nations Resident Coordinator Babatunde Ahonsi has encouraged senior-level staff of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS) to reflect on the conditions of detention and the complaint mechanisms available for the detainees in corrections centres across the country.

The resident Coordinator was speaking on Wednesday 8th June 2022 at the opening of a three-day training for senior-level staff of the SLCS on Conditions of Detention and Human Rights held in Freetown.
