Falaba gets 2 new medical centres

President Julius Maada Bio last week commissioned two Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care Health Facilities (BEONCHF) in Falaba district.

One of the hospitals was erected in Falaba town, whilst the other is at Masanda.  Five new fully equipped ambulances were also made available for the hospitals.

The President whilst addressing the people explained that for a while now women and children have been losing their lives due to lack of proper and quality health care facility.

At mentorship walk, girls urged to take leadership roles in SIerra Leone

One of the mentors of “Walk a Girl up Mentorship Walk” programme, Jayne Flynn-Sankoh, has urged young girls to believe in themselves by taking up leadership roles, wherever they find themselves.

She made this call to many young girls at a Mentorship Walk programme organised by Mirror Africa and Sponsored by Defence for Children International.   “Inspiring Girls and Young Women for Leadership and Participation” was the theme for the event held at the De Code Lounge in Freetown on Saturday 18th June, 2022. 

75% children needing brain surgery die in Sierra Leone - says doctor

 A physician at the University of Sierra Leone Teaching Hospital Dr. Sonia Spencer says 75% of children suffering from diseases requiring brain surgery die because the country cannot boast of a single neuro-surgeon.

She made this disclosure during the unveiling of a 25-bed children’s ward   at Connaught hospital that was refurbished by Ecobank and named after the late Dr. Robin Coker.

MCC to boost Sierra Leone energy sector

KKY exposes fake college in Bo

The Leader for the National Grand Coalition (NGC) party, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella who was recently appointed by Parliament as  Chairman for the Special Select Committee for Certificate Audit has revealed that there is a college in Bo that awards honorary doctorate degrees even though the college is not accredited.

Sierratel gets interim management

Sierra Leone Telecommunications Company Limited (Sierratel) has got five-man interim management committee to run its affairs.

The committee comprises a Chairman, Marketing Director, Sales Manager, Public Relations Officer, and the Secretary-General of the Sierra Leone Union of Postal and Telecommunication Employees (SLUPTE), which will now indefinitely manage the operations of the company.

11,200 schools in Sierra Leone to be connected to internet

Eleven thousand and two hundred (11,200) schools across the country are to get internet connectivity follow the launch of a project named Giga by the Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) and UNICEF.
