Sierra Leone has 1,058,000 housing deficit – says real estate boss

The Operations and Managing Director of TRIAD Engineering Company Ltd. Alhaji Amadu Sesay has said Sierra Leone has a 1,058,000 (one million and fifty-eight thousand) housing deficit. Sesay made this revelation at a press conference held on the 12th of October 2022.

He said they found out the country was in need of that number of housing units to enable every Sierra Leonean to have a place to dwell after they conducted a survey back in 2016. 

Ultimatum to vacate Hastings Airfield

People dwelling around the Old Airfield at Hastings have been ordered to vacate the area before the end of this October.  The order was issued by the Ministry of Transport and Aviation in a Press release dated 12 October 2022 in which it says it ‘’will take full possession of all such land on Tuesday, 1st November 2022”.

SLRSA decentralizes printing of drivers’ licenses

The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has decentralized new driver’s licenses renewals at regional level to accelerate a proper system.

This was disclosed on Thursday 13th October, 2022 at the usual Ministry of Information and Communications Press briefing at Youyi building in Freetown.

Sierra Leone diamond district expects boost in business after 24-hour electricity switched on

The Chairman Council of Paramount Chiefs for Kono District, Bamba Emmanuel Foryoh IV, has expressed hope for a boom in businesses following the turning on of the CLSG electricity in the district.

Speaking to Politico on the 11th of October 2022, a day after President Julius Maada Bio commissioned the Kono CLSG Electricity, Foryoh said it was “welcoming news to the business sectors”.

Sierra Leone corruption agency recovers over Le 35 billion

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is said to have recovered the sum of NLE 35,483.62 (thirty-five million, four hundred and eighty-three thousand, sixty-two New Leones from high profile cases they successfully investigated between 2018-2022.

That was revealed by ACC Deputy Commissioner, Augustine Foday Ngobie at the budget hearing organised by the Ministry of Finance in Freetown.

Salpost to provide digital services

The Managing Director of the Sierra Leone Postal Service (SALPOST), Brima Katta, has revealed the institution’s plans to provide different digital services in the country.

Addressing invitees at SALPOST’s headquarters in Freetown on Friday 7th October 2022 to commemorate World Post Day, which fell on Sunday, 9th October, Katta said: “Since I took office, my target operating module has been to offer diversified products and services on a digital platform using our footprint across the country.”
