Mohamed Bangura admits crossing checkpoint without authorization

A Member of Parliament, Mohamed Bangura, has admitted in his ongoing trial before the Principal Magistrate, Mark Ngegba of Pademba Road Court No.1 that he crossed a police checkpoint at Mathora Village in Tonkolili District without authorization because they did not give him the reason for mounting the said checkpoint and that it is an infringement on his freedom of movement.

21 March is judgement day for visa fraudster

Magistrate Mark Ngegba of the Pademba Road Court No.1 has promised to give judgement on a case of visa fraud involving an accused, Mohamed Alpha Bangura on the scheduled date of 21st March 2023.

Magistrate Ngegba said this during Monday’s hearing after informing the accused that the prosecution had closed its case.

Bah who has no legal representation opted to rely on the statement he made to the Police out of the three options given to him.

 The United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary James Cleverly was in Bo, Southern Sierra Leone on International Women’s Day where he launched a new strategy that is committed to supporting the development of more women and girls.

 The strategy which will among other things tackle gender inequality across the globe and put Women and girls at the heart of the UK’s international work was launched on social media at the Islamic Call School in Bo.  

EDSA admits huge losses from vandalism

2021 Audit report: ACC recovers over Le 2 billion

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has  recovered public resources in the total sum of Le2,036,665,607.6 (Two billion, thirty-six million, six hundred and sixty-five thousand, six hundred and seven Old Leones and six cents) that were unaccounted for  in the Auditor General’s Report of 2021 by various Ministries Departments and Agencies.

No presidential running-mate selection for Aki-Sawyer

Former Mayor of Freetown Municipality Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has announced that she will be running for the same position in the June 2023 election putting an end to suspicions over her bid to serve as the running-mate for the All Peoples Congress presidential hopeful Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara.  

Aki-Sawyerr made this revelation on the 8th of March 2023, marking International Women’s Day, saying “On this International Women’s day, I am pleased to announce that I am running for reelection as the Mayor of Freetown”.

Sierra Leone politicians sign against vulgarity, hate speech

Representatives from four political parties, the All Peoples Congress (APC) party, Coalition for Change (C4C), National Grand Coalition (NGC), and the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) have signed a communiqué against the use of obscenities, vulgarities and hate speech whilst carrying their activities.

The communiqué was signed at a dialogue lunch convened by the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) on the 6th March 2023 at the New Brookfields Hotel in Freetown
